Borneo or Kalimantan is well known for its tropical rainforest, rich of natural resources, and exotic flora and fauna. For the adventurous souls, this island offers many options to satisfy desire: rafting or traveling along some of the worlds most beautiful and challenging rivers, trekking through traditional villages and jungles, or taking a safari trip in one of the great national parks on this magnificent island. Traveling in Kalimantan will take you to the nook and corners of the land and allow you to get acquainted with the beautiful place which boasts of a colorful culture of ethnic groups including Dayak, Malay, and Chinese. The rich treasure of wildlife in Kalimantan usually attracts the global travelers who come here to spend some days in absolute peace and tranquillity. The rich flora and fauna of this land is one of the main reasons why people from far and wide love to come here. The wildlife in Kalimantan has long been one of the chief tourist attractions in and around Kalimantan. There are lot of national parks and forest reserves where the wild animals and plants find their paradised habitat on this magnificent island.


Tour Itenary :

Day 01  ARRIVAL IN PONTIANAK
Meet at airport and directly transfer to hotel. Free at your own leisure. In the afternoon, we can explore the riverbank area of Pontianak by the wooden boat to observe people daily life or having sightseeing trip to Pontianak harbor, Beting Permai water village, the huge Kapuas Bridge, as well as the monument of equator. Pontianak is the capital of West Kalimantan, located precisely on the equator and lies on the delta of Kapuas River, the longest river in Indonesia.
Day 02  PONTIANAK � SINTANG
After breakfast, we will leave to Sintang by public land transportation for about 8 hours. Lunch will be served on local restaurant en route, dinner and overnight on hotel. Free at your own leisure. (B,L,D)
Day 03  SINTANG � PUTUSSIBAU
Proceed to Putussibau by public land transportation for about 8 hours passing the beautiful view of Mount Kelam on the roadside. Arrive at Putussibau and directly transfer to a simple hotel for overnight. Free at your own leisure. (B,L,D)
Day 04  PUTUSSIBAU � BONGAN RIVER
Proceed to the headwater of the Kapuas River to reach Bongan River by long boat with all necessary supplies. The boat is about 1 � - 2 meters wide and 6-8 meters long occupies for 4-5 passengers with no roof, so it will be hot and noisy. On the way, we may stop at the Dayak village to see the longhouse. In certain places we have to go down to the river to pull and push the boat as the level of the water in the dry season is too shallow. Here you will experience how amazing the boatman and what we call "the Stone Man" knows exactly where the rock is and how to get away from the rapids. If the rapid is too extreme, we have to walk along the rock or villager farmlands at riverside and the boat will pick us up in certain place. It's tough here. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on bivouac/tent. (B,L,D)
Day 05  BONGAN RIVER � TANJUNG LOKANG
After breakfast, we will continue our journey with more challenging. Go down, pull and push the boat, walk on the rock or villager farmlands at riverside while the boat passing the rapids, those all can give you an unforgettable experience. On the way, you will see the tropical rainforest of Kalimantan, villager farmlands, hills, and temporary huts till you reach Tanjung Lokang. It is a remote village, inhabited by Punan Bongan Dayak people, located on the area of Betung Kerihun National Park. If you are a handicraft collector you may find some rattan basket weaving, traditional Dayak machete, blow pipe gun, palm leaves rounded hat, and many more. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on local house. (B,L,D)
Day 06  TANJUNG LOKANG �SUNGAI BULIT
We start the day by trekking across villager farmland and secondary rainforest. The first 2 hours we will hike the hill then another about 2 � hours passing the jungle and dry small river. After lunch en route close to the riverside, the trek will be up and down again, crossing a small shallow river, and Nyinyit Cave where the local people collect the swift nest that cost so expensive and very good to support their life inside the cave. Before dark, we will set a campsite for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 07  SUNGAI BULIT � SUNGAI BONGAN
After breakfast, we will cross rivers, up and down passing the jungle while exploring exotic flora and fauna of Borneo. After lunch at riverside, we will then cross jungle, rivers, cave and temporary huts used by villagers when having cultivation or hunting deer, wild pig, birds, and even sometimes clouded leopard. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on bivouac/tent. (B,L,D)
Day 08  SUNGAI BONGAN � SUNGAI BONGAN LEA
Trekking path here is varied but tougher. We will have lot of deal with water about � - 1 meter deep and walking on rock at riverside. Afterwards, we will continue our journey by trekking up and down along the riverside, while sighting flora and fauna as well as the fascinating landscape along the trek. Before dark, we will set our campsite for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 09  SUNGAI BONGAN LEA � PIANG LO`ONG
This is the longest and the toughest trek. After breakfast, we will proceed to trek up and down by crossing river and its rock. After lunch, we will continue the trek with almost the same characteristic. The trek is so challenging and need more of adventure spirit and power. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on bivouac/tent. (B,L,D)
Day 10  PIANG LO`ONG � MULLER RANGE
After breakfast, we walk about two hours up and down river till reaching the foot of Muller Range. It started from the altitude of 500 M above sea level to reach the border of West and East Kalimantan at 1000 M above sea level. The path is not so difficult only high up hill passing the jungle. It takes about 1 - 2 hours, depends on your ability. No need to rush as the jungle view is fantastic. After lunch en route, the trail is easier by trekking downhill to find a good place for setting our campsite. (B,L,D)
Day 11  MULLER RANGE � MUARA CUTING
The trek here is almost the same with before day but never boring, we will cross rivers, hills, and jungle. On the way, our Dayak porters will show us how to survive on the jungle by collecting rattan, fish catching, and setting animal trap that involve you. Before dark, we will set a campsite for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 12  MUARA CUTING � SAITE
After breakfast, we will proceed to trek about 3 hours to reach Saite, this time you will have plenty of time for relaxing, swimming, and take a break after hard trekking. The trek will pass the jungle, hills, and rivers. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on bivouac/tent. (B,L,D)
Day 13  MUARA SAITE � TIONG OHANG
After breakfast, proceed to trek by crossing the river and jungle to reach the mouth of the Mahakam River for about 3 hours. We will pass villager farmlands before reaching the riverside. Upon arrival, the longboat will take us to Tiong Ohang village for about 2 hours journey. You will pass some temporary hut as well as villager farmlands and jungle, lunch will be served en route, dinner on simple restaurant and overnight on local house at Tiong Ohang village. This is the first village you encounter after long days in the jungle. (B,L,D)
Day 14  TIONG OHANG � LONG BAGUN
Get a full day trip by public boat to cruise the headwaters of Mahakam River through some challenged rapids while sightseeing beautiful view of rainforest as well as people unique activities at riverside. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on local house. (B,L,D)
Day 15  LONG BAGUN � MELAK
Breakfast at local house, then downward to Melak by public houseboat, here you can explore the local people way of life, the riverside civilization that certainly different with our normal life on the land. The houseboat is a public traditional wooden boat with two decks, the first deck for carrying goods and economy class with capacity about 100 passengers and the second deck is for executive class with capacity of 75 passengers. The economy room is more open both sides and no mattress while the executive served mattress, with communal room, no cabin and no AC. At the back side, there are some Borneo style toilets and simple restaurant providing Indonesian food, tea, coffee, and snacks on the first deck. The boat will stop sometimes to pick and drop passengers or loading some supplies. Arrive at Melak and directly transfer to local inn. (B,L,D)
Day 16  MELAK KERSIK LUWEY EHENG SAMARINDA
After breakfast, we will proceed to Eheng village for visiting an old and impressive longhouse with its unique ornament and shape while exploring the Tunjung Dayak daily life. Next, we will drive to Kersik Luwey reserve for observing the rare black orchid and other flora on the zone. Afterwards, transfer to Samarinda for overnight on hotel. (B,L)
Day 17  SAMARINDA � KABO VILLAGE � KUTAI NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, driving to Kabo village for cruising up the Mentoko river by motorized canoe and then soft trekking in the jungle to observe wild orangutan. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on research camp of Mentoko or tent. (B,L,D)
Day 18  KUTAI NATIONAL PARK KABO VILLAGE SAMARINDA
In the morning, we will be trekking in different trail of the jungle to observe orangutans, monkeys, birds, insects, etc. Next, we will cruise down the Mentoko River back to Kabo village for catching our coach to drive to Samarinda for overnight on hotel. (B,L)
Day 19  SAMARINDA � MUARA KOMAM � UPAU VILLAGE
After breakfast, we will drive to Muara Komam for exploring a beautiful cave. Afterwards, we will proceed to Upau village for observing the daily life of Dayak Deah people. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on local house. (B,L,D)
Day 20  UPAU VILLAGE � NAGARA � LOKSADO
After breakfast, we can see mystical performance of Dayak Deah takes about 1,5 hour. In this performance, we will watch some women are dancing followed by traditional music instruments, meanwhile the shaman is climbing the thorny tree with bare hand and foot without getting any hurt on his body. Next, travel to Nagara village for sighting traditional machete making, metal ware, and pottery home industries, then continue our trip to Muning village to get our boat cruising the narrow canal to Nagara lake for observing water buffaloes swim to the stall and villagers' unique activities as well as enjoying the romantic sunset outlook. Afterwards, proceed to Loksado for overnight on lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 21  BAMBOO RAFTING � RIAM KANAN LAKE � APUAI
After breakfast, we will take an adventure trip of bamboo rafting across beautiful landscape of tropical rainforest along the Amandit riverside meanwhile our coach will be waiting on the downstream for transferring to Aranio small port to cruise upward the Riam Kanan Lake to Apuai while sighting beautiful mountainous scenery as well as species of bird fly over the lake. Afterwards, we will set a campsite on the lakeside. (B,L,D)
Day 22  APUAI RIAM KANAN LAKE BANJARMASIN
We will cruise deeper the Riam Kanan Lake to explore beautiful view of forests, mountainous swamp, birds, boat making, floating fishing ponds, etc. Next, proceed to Banjarmasin for taking an afternoon canal sightseeing. Afterwards, transfer to hotel for overnight. (B,L)
Day 23  FLOATING MARKET � SAMPIT
Early in the morning, we will leave to floating market for exploring the unique culture of Banjarese that trade commodities from boat to boat, then return to hotel crossing Banjarmasin River while sightseeing people activities at riverside. Afterwards, we will drive to Sampit with some stop over on interesting spots we will meet en route. Free at your own leisure and overnight on hotel. (B,L,D)
Day 24  SAMPIT � PANGKALAN BUN � TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK
Transfer to Kumai sub-district for boarding the houseboat to Tanjung Puting National Park. The houseboat is a traditional wooden river boat about 6m by 2m with a roof forms the upper deck where you can view the rainforest as it glides by. The boat crew including the boatman, cook and expert guide. In the peaceful afternoon, we will slowly explore the quite river by the houseboat while observing the primates along the riverside. Overnight and dining on houseboat, with facilities; thin mattress, pillow, fine meals, bottled "mineral" water, mosquito net, kitchen, and simple toilet available on boat besides the familiar helpful guides and boatmen. Day 25  TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, we will board the houseboat for cruising upward to Pondok Tanguy to explore the rehabilitation center of the new ex-captive orangutans. Next, return to houseboat for sailing upward the creek to Camp Leakey where the older orangutans are reintroduced into the rainforest. At this station, you will have opportunity to trek into the rainforest with your expert guide and forest rangers to appreciate the flora as well as viewing wild orangutans, gibbons, macaques, and birds. Lunch will be served on houseboat. In the afternoon, we will visit the feeding station to see rehabilitated orangutans are given additional foods. We will then sail back down the river and overnight on houseboat. (B,L,D)
Day 26  TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK � DEPARTURE
Return to Kumai district by boat then transfer to Pangkalan Bun airport for your next destination. (B)
